I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the formula M1 x V1 = M2 x V2, but that is what will be using here.
Another good one to know is that moles= MV
(moles = Molarity times volume)
M is for Molarity and V is for volume, volume typically uses liters. So for this example we can set up an equation to find x. x L(4.0 M) = 1.0 L ( 0.50 M)
We multiply on the right.
x L (4.0 M) = 0.5 moles
And now divide both sides by 4.0
x = 0.5/4.0
x = 0.125 L
